Plantaze Vranac 2004 Lake Skadar Valley 12,5

On our quest to find great wine for a great price, we stumbled upon a random bottle at our local wine shop called Vranac dell'azienza Plantaze. Haling from Montenegro, (a small country next to Croatia, for those of you who dont know) this winery produces a few wine types, but the one we had was a Vranac, an indiginous red.
While repeating this stange new name over and over in my head, I studied the color: a ruby red with granite highlights; the smell: very likeable fruits (prugnes and strawberries), floreals (violets and violas) and earth (tabacco and cocao); and taste: dry, soft and warm with a good persistance and intesity, more mineral than acidic, and a good amount of tannins, however leaving just a touch of bitterness at the end. A complete surprise on how good it was, and for only $7, its one of the many wines that proves our theory; good, cheap wine does exist.
Vote 85/100
