PieroPan 'Calvarino' 2004

As I've probably stated before, Soave wines can have a bad rep for what they produced in 'earlier' days. However, times have changed and amid the refined producers, we find PieroPan. They make a few types of Soave including the recioto, but the one in particular I tried today was the 'Calvarino' Soave Classico. 70% Garganega and 30% Trebbiano, its straw like color and light consistancy is typical of most whites. Herby and vegetal, minty and fruity, the bouquet is intense and sharp with a freshness that remindes us of summer breezes and rain (a period in which Im desperatly waiting for!). Intense, complex, and long lasting, it brings forth the flavors we smelled just a moment earlier onto our palate. Well-rounded, clean, crisp and mineral with maybe an extra touch of warmth. A fantastic soave deserved to be opened.

Parlando della mia terra il Veneto vorrei soffermarmi con un vino di una azienda ormai famosa anche oltre oceano La Pieropan. Fondata nel 1890 da Leonildo Pieropan portabandiera del Veronese e precisamente di Soave produce vini bianchi secchi come il Soave Classico Doc, Il Calvarino Soave Classico, La Rocca Soave Classico . Mentre tra quelli dolci ci son Le Colombare Recioto di Soave, Il Passito della Rocca e il Santa Lucia Vendemmia Tardiva. Noi abbiamo aperto il Calvarino Soave Classico 70% di uva Garganega e 30% Trebbiano dal colore paglierino abbastanza consistente il bouquet è intenso e pungente di freschezza si riconoscono note erbacee, fruttate di polpa bianca e mineralità data dallo specifico "terroir" del suolo vulcanico e tufaceo. Buono in bocca si esprime intenso e persistente, rotondo pulito forse con una nota alcolica di troppo ma sicuramente da bere e da gustare con piatti di pesce e con formaggi di latteria di media stagionatura.
