Osteria senza oste

Sometimes you can find the most amazing places without even looking for them. A friend had once mentioned to us that in the Prosecco wine region (about a half hour from our house) there was this place- a restaurant, kindof, but without waiters, bartenders, not even a hostess- but that it was great. So a few months later we decided to take his advice and go in search of this Osteria without a host (or in Italian Osteria senza Oste).
Without any internet site or address to follow, or anyone even knowing of this place, we drove into Valdobbiadene hoping to find someone, anyone, who could help us out. We stopped after a little while to get gas and ask for directions- and our intendent had heard of the Osteria! Following his directions we came across a sign (on a pink piece of paper) just off the road between vineyards with a questions mark and an arrow on it. We persued. A minute later, another one, and so on until we came to the final question mark. We parked and once again chased after the strange sign. After a short passage into a field, an old brick building was before us with an open door. Two people exited and we knew we had found our place. Inside were four tables, a fridge and a cupboard. On one of these tables were directions- help yourself and leave the money in the box. Inside the fridge we a few bottles of Prosecco col fondo, and on the labels where the price. Same thing for the food in the cupboard. So we took a bottle, left the money in the box and went outside. To our right was another passage, So we decided to take a look. Walking a minute or two past the hanging grapes we arrived at a clearing where a covered platform, open on all four sides stood overlooking the valley below. It was the most unexpected, beautiful and peaceful place. And so, we sat in silence sipping our wine, indulging in the view.

Beh, ben poche persone ci crederanno ma esiste un'osteria a Santo Stefano di Valdobbiadene senza oste! Incredile di questi tempi che esista qualcosa del genere ma un passa parola lento ma inesorabile arrivato fino alle nostre orecchie grazie ad un amico Franco gestore dell'Osteria alla Bifora a Venezia in Campo Santa Margherita (da provare) ci ha portato a conoscenza di questo gioiello incastonato nel Veneto. Arrivarci è quasi un impresa anche perchè la stradina che ci porta alla nostra meta è quasi nascosta ma c'è un piccolo grande riferimento la famosa azienda Col Vettoraz di Valdobbiadene. Non voglio andare oltre perchè vogliamo sia far conoscere e nello stesso tempo tener per pochi intimi questo meraviglioso e inimitable luogo. Alcune foto possono mostrarne in parte la piacevolezza, ma l'odore il rumore e la freschezza di tutto quello che ci gira attorno è indescrivibile ed unico. Abbiamo avuto modo di bere una bottiglia del loro Prosecco e di assaggiare il classico uovo sodo pagato attraverso una cassettina tipo quella delle offerte in una chiesa (il prezzo dei prodotti è stampato su di essi) e di passare bellissimi momenti di libertà. In una parola, meraviglioso!!!
