Ombre Rosse

To celebrate Valentines Day, Paolo and I decided to go to a restaurants we had been to only once before, Enoteca Ombre Rosse in the city of San Trovaso near Treviso. Claudio, the owner, is well known for his large collection of wine, but also for his character- While waiting for our table to be ready, he offered us fresh glass of Pinot Bianco of the Azienda Drius di Cormons from the Fruili Venezia Giulia region. An interesting, well rounded, fuller bodied white, good for winter. The restaurant is very welcoming and I can only guess used to be the ground floor of someones home, after noticing details of where a fireplace used to be or the arrangement of walls. Theres a garden turned seating area outside great for warm summer nights paired with cool sparklers. Once seated we ordered a bottle of Chianti Classico by the Fontodi group, 2006 and checked out the menu. I choose an Insalata di Burrata (my favorite mozzarella) and a steak tartar for the main course; meanwhile Paolo went with the pasta fagiolo for an appetizer and guancine di vitello (or veal cheek) with polenta. Tasting our wine, we discovered that 70% of the ground used to create the grapes is biologic and creates a wine with 14% alcohol andof grand quality. It is still young, so the color was purple going towards ruby adn showed many legs. Fruity smells like rasberry, cherry and strawberry, with touches of violets, graphite, cloves, licquorish and anice. It was fresh and mineral, dry, warm and soft, with a large amount of tannin. Although my cold held me back from tasting everything perfectly, we both really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and wine.
