Emilio Sartor, Campo di Prà at Agnoletti restaurant

A rare find, this wine is great! This red from Colli Asolani near Padova was recomended by our waiter (and owner) of the Agnoletti restaurant.
This small region is still unknown to many people even Italians and even to people who live within an hour of it, but, it produces many great wines and even became a DOCG recently for its prosecco. Founded in 1957, az.agricola Emilio Sartor located between the villages of Venegazzu and Montello, is a small family owned vineyard full of surprises. We tried their Campo di Prà which was a deep, rich red, full of powerful, long lasting aromas of red fruits, viola, pepper, mint, cinnamon, aloe and balsalmic with perfect amounts of alcohol and wood. Really well rounded. The taste was just as good as the smell, super juicy and elegant. We were surprised that such a great wine came from such a small area and wonder why people always tend to think of Tuscany or Piedmonte as having the best wines. There's a lot out there to learn and drink!

While we were being given our second course, we tried another bottle from the same area. Rosso di Milio by Casal Paolin wasn't as eye popping as the Sartor but still a really good wine. Much younger and purple in color, it didnt stand up to the second course. Dried fruit perfumes, cloves and most of a smell of freshly chopped wood. A big mouthed wine full of sapidity, acidity and youth.

Una chicca del Veneto! Questo rosso del Colli Asolani vicino Padova, era raccommandato dal nostro caminiere (e padrone) del ristorante Agnoletti. Questo piccola zona è poco conoscuita anche per noi italiani anche se la produzione è ottima, come uno degl'ultimi DOCG, Colli Asoli Prosecco. Fondato a 1957, az.agricola Emilio Sartor, fra le città di Venegazzu e Montello, è una cantina piccola familiare, piena di sorprese. Abbiamo provato il loro Campo di Prà. Rosso scuro, ricco, potente e pieno di aromi come quelli di frutti rossi, viola, pepe, menta, cannella aloe e balsamico, combinato perfettamente con una giusta quantità di alcol e legno. Molto tondo. Il gusto era buono come i sentori, succoso ed elegante. Eravamo sorpresi che un vino così buono possa venire da un luogo così sconosciuto e pensavamo perchè normalmente siamo spinti a credre che i buoni vini arrivino solo dai posti famosi, come Toscana o Piemonte. La verità è che c'è così tanto da imparare sul vino! Mentre stavamo aspettando il nostro secondo piatto, abbiamo provato un' altra bottiglia della stessa zona. Rosso di Milio da Casal Paolin non era espolosivo come il Sartor ma comunque un vino molto buono. Piu giovane e porpora di colore, non era abbastanza potente da abbinare con la carne del piatto (oca). Frutti secchi, chiodi di garofano e sopratutto profumo di legno appena tagliato. Il gusto ricco di sapidità, acidità e giovineza. Buono.
